Tips for doing business in Haikou, China

The conversation starter, the app and the bar that should be on your radar for a business trip to Haikou

Conversation starter: Medical tourism hotspot

On your next Haikou work trip, show your knowledge of the area by bringing up the local medical tourism push. About an hour from Haikou, state-of-the-art hospitals are being constructed to attract wealthy domestic travellers looking for high-quality medical care. This 20-square-kilometre site is the country’s first zone dedicated to medical tourism and has boosted development on the tropical island.

The app: Ctrip

Try out Hainan’s high-speed rail, which encircles the island that’s also China’s southernmost province. You can book train tickets, in addition to flights and hotels, with the Ctrip app. It works in various languages, but note that internationally the company is now known as Trip.com.

After hours: Flair

Flair, Hong Kong bar

Relax after a day of meetings at The Ritz-Carlton Haikou’s Flair bar, which offers a great sunset view along with a cosy fire pit. Flair serves hand-crafted cocktails and Asian-style tapas. With several private dining rooms, it’s also a great choice for discussing work in a social setting.
