Top Business Hotel: Mandarin Oriental, Guangzhou

Situated in Guangzhou's CBD, this stylish business hotel comes with spacious function rooms and an outdoor pool

There may be newer, more futuristic or more sky-high hotels in China’s third city, but for stately elegance, the six-year-old Mandarin Oriental, Guangzhou still has few peers. The lobby sums it up: warm and refined, attentive but not suffocating service, and an aesthetic that’s striking, modern and unmistakably Chinese.

The hotel is located in Tianhe, Guangzhou’s imposing CBD, just north of Zhujiang New Town. It’s connected to Taikoo Hui, the equally luxe shopping mall, and is a short car ride from the towering financial and commercial hubs surrounding Huacheng Square. Connections to the Guangzhou Metro are convenient, and it’s a 45-minute journey to the airport.

The Rooms

The 263 guest rooms and suites feel more sleek apartment than traditional luxury hotel: comfortable, unpretentious and relaxed. Workstations double as living room tables, and there’s just the right emphasis on technology (blazing fast Wi-Fi, electronic blinds).

Function rooms range from the 500-person Grand Ballroom to more intimate boardrooms, while the restaurants – especially the avant-Cantonese Jiang by Chef Fei – provide more informal spaces for private entertaining. Club room guests also have access to the Oriental Club. Of course, there’s a spa, a gym that overlooks the skyline, and an outdoor pool.
