What’s the Deal?
Cambridge has been powering ahead in recent years, thanks to housing one of Europe’s biggest clusters of tech firms. But there was a ‘but’. Cambridge has long lacked a really great city centre hotel. Now after a seven-year, nearly HK$800 million overhaul, the University Arms is finally a hotel worthy of its location.
Rooms
We loved the wood-panelled cosy-contemporary rooms: your surroundings make you feel a bit like a professor with impeccable taste and a handy trust fund. The brasserie, Parker’s Tavern, does a roaring trade in proud parents and their hungry offspring. Like the rest of the hotel, the cooking and service are assured and unflashy, with a double-first in provenance and presentation.
Facilities
Elsewhere in the University Arms, facilities include a fitness centre and a ballroom with a fireplace and sweeping views for entertaining. The city centre location also places you within easy reach of the prestigious university campuses, the Fitzwilliam Museum and the River Cam.
