Best Hong Kong Beach
Winner: Repulse Bay

Repulse Bay has been the island’s favourite beach since the city’s earliest days. Its sprawling sands, coupled with its ease of access via public transportation and wealth of dining options courtesy of The Pulse development, make it a top pick for tanning time.
‘Crescent-shaped Repulse Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches in Hong Kong – superb for a stroll during the day and great for sunsets in the evening. ‘ –Alison Gilmore, international business development professional and part of our panel of travel experts
Best Hong Kong Beach Shortlist
Tai Long Wan, Sai Kung
The only way to access the crystal clear waters of Tai Long Wan is to hike in or take a boat. That means it remains relatively untouched – and its remoteness makes it a popular pick for overnight campers.
Ham Tin Wan, Sai Kung
White sand and turquoise waters – this Sai Kung beach is still a hike – or boat ride – away, but it’s slightly closer than Tai Long Wan and boasts a beachside Chinese restaurant that serves up all the essentials.
Big Wave Bay, Southern
This bay is a popular spot to relax after tackling the Dragon’s Back hike. It’s also Hong Kong Island’s pre-eminent surf beach. Visitors can grab a bite before renting boards to ride its swells and waves.
Clear Water Bay, Sai Kung
This picturesque beach is easily accessible by car or public transport and, as its name suggests, offers clear waters in which to swim, and fine sands on which to sunbathe.
Shek O, Southern
A popular spot for a beachside barbeque, Shek O also offers some of Hong Kong Island’s cleanest waters, sheltered golden sands and a reasonable range of restaurants.
Discovery Bay, Lantau Island
Discovery Bay’s beach is a short walk from the ferry pier and a stone’s throw from the area’s dining strip. Various activities take place there throughout the year, from beach sports to special events.
Long Ke Wan, Sai Kung
The view coming over the hill to Long Ke Wan never gets old – this is picture-postcard Hong Kong. But its beauty is remote and everything you might want for the beach, you’ll need to bring with you.
Deep Water Bay, Southern
With a pit full of barbeques and one humble kiosk, Deep Water Bay Beach provides little more than warm seas and fine golden sand – but really, how much more do you need?
Lower Cheung Sha, Lantau Island
One of Hong Kong’s longest beaches, this Lantau spot is an ideal place to spend the day, with its strip of restaurants and cafes, and an aquatic centre hiring out surf boards, stand-up paddle boards and even tents.
