Macro Polo Club Members Choice Awards, Most fashionable city

From the avant-garde colour explosion of Harajuku girls to the steampunk-inspired Lolitas, Tokyo’s fashionistas have shown they love to experiment with eye-popping outfits. Vogue recently declared its prime attraction to Tokyo Fashion Week was to witness the ‘most experimental fashion obsessives we’ve ever seen’, with Tokyo considered ‘the urban embodiment of unbridled – if not out-of-this-world street style’. Combined with sleek designs from the likes of Issey Miyake, it’s easy to see how Tokyo has sashayed to first place in the list.

Style: Most Fashionable City Shortlist

Bangalore (India)

Launched in 2009, Bangalore Fashion Week cemented the city’s position as a fashion stronghold in India, providing a southern counterpart to India Fashion Week in the northern capital, Delhi, and India Runway Week in Mumbai.

Bangkok (Thailand)

Fashionistas could spend a whole day luxury mall-hopping in Bangkok. Starting with Siam Paragon and the futuristic Central Embassy Mall in Pathum Wan, before wandering down Sukhumvit Road to the cool Em Quartier, or hopping across the river to new opening Icon Siam.

Hong Kong (Hong Kong SAR, China)

Hong Kong has always been a hub of high-end luxury – but the growing reputation of its streetwear and indie designers and burgeoning art scene are taking the city in a cooler direction.

Kyoto (Japan)

It might be more readily associated with tradition and culture – but Kyoto’s numerous boutiques keep the city in touch with contemporary trends, too.

Seoul (South Korea)

The Korean Wave has well and truly swept the globe, exporting the Gangnam-style world of fashion, popstars and all things cool, and certifying Seoul as one of the most fashionable places on the planet.

Shanghai (China)

Shanghai has long been synonymous with glamour and style, and continues to lead with a unique sense of East-meets-West style that is now starting to incorporate technology for extra fashion-forward points.

Singapore (Singapore)

As documented by Crazy Rich Asians, Singapore is home to a fabulous glitterati, dripping with jewels, cloaked in the latest runway trends and accessorised to the hilt.
