Flying Cathay Dragon during June? You might notice an eye-catching magazine cover in your seatback pocket.
The beautiful ink painting was a special commission for Silkroad’s June 2017 issue, by Hong Kong artist Danny Liu. Hit play on the video above to see how Liu worked through his process for this particular piece of art.
Liu is a trained ink painter and well-known artist in Hong Kong, who regularly teaches classes and hosts exhibitions of his stunning work, to help popularise this ancient art form from China.
Combining distinct features from the five ancient walls of China, he created a beautiful piece of work, encapsulating the story inside the magazine (‘The Other Great Walls of China’) and the walls themselves.
This cover is particularly special as he employs the use of vivid colours instead of the black, white and grey tones you may associate with traditional Chinese ink paintings.
An avid traveller, Liu is regularly inspired by the landscapes and cultures he encounters in China and the rest of Asia.
Check out his work at www.dannyliuart.com and see him in action in the video above.
