Taichung’s hip, bohemian, arty shopping street

Exploring a collegiate hangout in central Taiwan

Tung Hai Arts Street, actually named Yishu Street, stands out from other shopping destinations in Taichung with its bohemian vibe. Thanks to its proximity to Tung Hai University, this area has a collegiate, cultured feel, with arty shopkeepers opening independent businesses like secondhand bookshops, quirky gift shops and cosy cafes. In the street’s many artist studios, visitors soak in the creativity and often go home with handmade objects.
